Hi there, I have a macbookpro duo core late 2006 with upgraded memory to 4gb 667 MHz SDRAM and originally the OS was 10.4.6

Recently, apple care advised me to purchase the disc for 10.6.3 which is now installed and working fine but now it seems I need to get up to 10.6.6 in order to finally upgrade to Mountain lion. I've downloaded the updates for 10.6.3 but dont know how to move up to 10.6.6. Im finding the whole mac upgrading process really frustrating if I didnt love my macbook I would switch back to windows at this point! Thank you for any much needed advice!

Your machine can only be upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. (If you gave us the correct nomenclature for it.) A late 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro is also limited to 2 GB of memory although you can install 4 GB. However, only 2 GB is usable.

To answer your question.... you can not upgrade to Mountain Lion. You can download 10.6.8 direct from Apple since you can not use the App Store software update.

Boot your Mac and login as usual (assuming you are using an admin account). Now do the following;

1. Download the Snow Leopard Combo Updater.

2. Double-click the installer and let it run.
