I was wondering why the apple logo had a bite taken out of it? I was told it had something to do with bill gates.

Thanks for the input.

Doubtful.
I imagine it just looks better than a regular apple. Or apples are one of the basic things of life, they have been useful in every civilization. Taking a bite means its utilized. I dont think we can look into it too much. Windows' icon is a Window.
Apple's icon is an apple. Bill Gates wishes he had something to do with its creation.

No. Nothing to do with bill gates. Apples icon is just a symbol.

"First, we designed the logo. That is, Rob Janoff designed it -- an Apple with a bite out of it, indicating the acquisition of knowledge. Originally, the apple logo was to be simple, but the Apple II's advantage at the time was color output, so Jobs argued the logo should have colors, and, of course, Jobs won. He ended up actually specifying several of the colors of the logo."

The bite is a play on the word "byte" for a computer byte.
