"Best" is always a subjective term. How about..."works well with no hassles"??:) Also...you didn't specify laser printer or inkjet.

I have a Brother HL2280dw laser printer. It's a few years old...but works well...no hassles.:)

It's best to choose one that supports OS X. Here are some suggestions based on experience from our members:

Epson
HP
Brother
Canon

Another consideration is consumables. Whether you need a pure black and white laser or a color all in one printer, check prices for replacement cartridges. I've seen some folks buy a very inexpensive printer only to find out that the replacement cartridges cost more than the printer. ;)

Even though my printer has built-in WiFi, I prefer to use TimeCapsule for that (for security and speed/bandwidth reasons), so the printer (colour laser Dell C1760nw) is connected to TC via ethernet with a static IP - works perfectly for MacBook Pro and Air.
