Hi everyone.

I recently bought a late 2006 17" iMac off ebay for around $40. Runs perfect except the screen has these vertical lines down it. I've seen this before at my previous school which had the exact same models.

Here is a picture of the screen at the moment:

I'm currently using it with an external monitor which is going well. But I'd like to replace the screen with an old 17" G5 iMac that broke a few years ago. Is it possible & if so how would I go about doing it without ruining the intel iMac.

Here are some pics of old G5 iMac:

Thanks !

I don't believe you can swap the G5 17" screen to the Intel 17" iMac. The dimensions are different and it's very likely the power requirements and video connections are different. You can always check to see if it's possible by comparing the two. The ifixit web site has instructions on how to change the screen.

I'll add not to automatically assume it's the display. Could be the video cable or graphics hardware on the logic board.

And I agree with chscag...I don't think that the display panels are interchangeable. But if you want to double check...go to Powerbookmedic.com...and compare the part numbers for the display panels for the two iMac models you mentioned.
