Can't Paste

I have a new to me MacBook Air, June 2013, running 10.9.2. I am frustrated that the paste function does not work in any application I have tried. Anyone know what solutions there are?

I assume you're using ⌘--C then ⌘--V right?

I know this is as basic, as it gets, but I actually had a friend who, having just switched from Windows, was getting very frustrated that [control]--C / [control]--V didn't work... :Lips-Are-Sealed:

I am a LONG time Mac user, so yes, I used the correct keycommands. In frustration, I shut down and then rebooted and for some bizarre reason that solved the problem. No idea why it was happening or why it is gone now. I am hoping i does not mysteriously reappear.
