Shutdown Issues

Hi everyone,

We have 4 Macs in the office and are having random issues when shutting down in the evening, the Macs hang on a grey screen and will not shutdown and it is a different Mac each evening, 2 are iMac's and 2 Mac Pro's all on Mavericks, I am new to Macs but have been tasked with trying to solve this.

If any one can point me in the right direction for tips on how to fix this that would be great.

Hi Chris - welcome to the forum! Not sure that I can help at the moment but please provide some additional information: 1) iMac & MBPro ages (i.e. what year models); 2) OS Mavericks version; 3) Are you running a virtual machine(s) on these computers (e.g. Parallels, VMware, or Boot Camp; and 4) Are you running any malware (i.e. AV) software or other 'cleaning' type software (if so, please list) - might get the members started w/ suggestions. The "usual" reason a Mac won't shut down is that something is still running in the background and has not finished or continues to run. In order to isolate what's happening, you can use the "Activity Monitor" (Applications, Utilities, Activity Monitor.app) to determine what if anything is still active and preventing the machine from shutting down.
