I own a MacBook Pro made late January 2007. I cannot upgrade to OS X Maverick but a MacBook Pro made mid to late 2007 can. What is the difference in the computers other than manufacturing date that allows the later made computers to upgrade. My computer meets the other upgrade requirements.

Without providing specific model numbers of your MacBook Pro machines, we have no way of determining why one can be upgraded to Mavericks while the other can not.

Agree, give us the specs on the older MBP. On the early 2007 and before machines that are not Mavericks compatible it's usually the video chipset/card.

It is an early 2007 and will only run up to Lion OS X.7.5. Download a little application called Mactracker for all that vital information:-

Mountain Lion and above require a 64 bit EFI architecture.

Your MacBook Pro is a late '06 model - I have one also - the EFI is 32 bit in them.

And, I can tell you, no way you want to put Mountain Lion or Mavericks on a machine with less than 4GB RAM. Max usable in that '06 model is 3 GB. You can put 4 GB in it to maintain dual channel mode, but it can only use 3 GB.
