can't empty trash

imac os 10.7.5

i click secure empty trash. yes i want to dump locked files. next i see the long rectangle. the little blue thing pops up and as quickly everything disappears. i am no longer offered plain empty trash. help anyone?

So when you right-click on the trashcan, it only says Secure Empty Trash? One possibility is that your command key is stuck down. You may also have enabled this as the default option in the Finder settings. See link below for instructions on how to change the settings.
