Been budgeting it or the D7100 for some time; finally decided to go with the D610.

Photography on a budget:-

Panasonic Lumix TZ5 (bought 2 broken ones to make 1 working) with 16GB SD card

FujiFilm S2 Pro with 2GB CF card, Nikkor 35-70mm F3.3-5.6 AF (made 1986), Nikkor 28-80mm F3.3-5.6 G AF (2001) - so far an incredibly better lens than the first one, various filters (need to work on how to use them properly)

PhotoShop CS4
LightRoom 2.7
Gimp 2.6.7
Pixelmator 1.5.1
(All working fine in both Leopard on my PPC machines and Mavericks on the Intel ones)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Forgot to mention - I still have my dad's 1951 Lordomat 35mm film camera, still fully working and with an additional 90mm lens

how is the D810?

when i changed my d700 i looked at it but just couldn't justify the extra £700 over the D800, especially as i wanted and bought a new nikon 16-35 f4 wide angle lens at the same time

Still putting it through its paces. Got fed up waiting for the mythical D400 to appear so after 6/7 years of waiting for the D300(s) replacement decided to get the D810.
Have only done test shots at the mo with the 300 AFS f4, waiting for the grip before I try my big glass and TCs .........
