I recently deleted 8gb of video files from my computer. Emptied trash, but didn;t free up any space on HD. Any ideas? 2014 MacBook pro 13" running Mavericks.

Yeah, positive there was 8gb on there. And, yes, I restarted. So strange.

Check the app store for an app called FileShredder. I use this a lot when I'm deleting large files, it has a "secure shred" option which clears up the space that the item was taking.
