I bought a used Mac. The previous owner took all his software off. However, I keep getting update notices from the app store for two of the games he'd bought. How can I stop the notices from coming all the time?

Whenever I purchase a used Mac...I erase the HD, reformat it, and do a fresh reinstall of the OS.

Now the computer is "mine"...with no residual indications or references to the previous owner.:)

I agree with Nick. If you are comfortable doing it, do a reformat and a fresh install. Even if I bought a used Mac and they told me they did a clean install I would still do it myself. ;D

Clean install is best in this case for many reasons. Here's another thought though: If you launch the App Store. At the right side of the main window, in the Quick Links section, does the welcome message have your name or the previous owner's? If it has his name the machine is still logged into his account.
try making sure you're logged into your account and see if the problem persists.

What Mac and what operating system.

For OS X.6 use the disc that may have come with the Mac, or purchase from Apple Online for $20.00. If later, OS X.7, X.8 and X.9 you will need an Apple ID so as you can download a new version. One of the problems with the three latter systems is that the copy on a machine ALWAYS belongs to the person with the Apple ID.
