I get conflicting reports on how much memory I can install in my mac pro. Apple says max 32GB. Others range from 64 to 128GB. My specs are:

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8

What can I really put in there and be recognized?

The "official" max from Apple when this computer was released in 2009 was 32gig of ram max. But later folks found that it's true max. for the Mac OS is 96gig.

If running Windows XP or later in 64-bit mode it can utilize 128gig.

If you're just concerned about the Mac OS...then the max. is 96gig of ram.

p.s. And by the way...if you were to upgrade it to 96gig of ram...it's going to cost you $1230 bucks!

Thank you Nick. I doubt I'll max it out, but I certainly will go for more than 32GB.
