Can a macbook with core2duo take 16gb

I've been researching my ram upgrade for a mid 2009 macbook 2.13ghz intel core2duo, currently sporting 4gb 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

My mac has the same chip set as several varieties of the macbook pro. Lots of people have suggested the 8gb upgrade and I know my mac can handle that.

What I cannot seem to find is anybody that has tried putting a couple of 204pin 8gb ddr3's in their macbook (not pro) and found it not to work. Surely someone out there is mad enough to try it.

I wonder if since my mac os x upgrade anyone has experience of trying 16gb and finding it not to be recognised.

Any information would be appreciated.

OWC, Mac specialist, advise your model MacBook can handle up to 6GB of maximum memory. Suggesting 8GB would not work at all. Neither will DDR3 modules. Look at the link:-

Not only won't your 2009 MacBook take 16gig of ram...it also can't take 8gig of ram. Officially it can be upgraded to 4gig of ram...but folks have found that 6gig is the true max (4gig + 2gig). So 6gig is the max.

There are a total of 3 Macs that have ever had a 2.13 Ghz core2duo.
One MacBook and 2 MacBook Airs.

You can find not only the max RAM but all sorts of info at everymac.com - including the ability to look up your Mac by series, year, and CPU. Here is the specs for that particular MacBook.

Someone out there probably was mad enough to try it, but after trying to put a 204 pin stick into a slot designed for 200 pin memory and breaking their computer, they probably didn't post it online and tell the world about it.

So jospeh it is an all round "NO"!
