Start up issues

I accidently dropped my macbook os x 10.5.8 from my kitchen table. It landed flat on the ground. It stars up and everything seems to be ok but now the hard drive makes a lot more random noises when i turn it on. is this something I should be concerned about? will it manifest into greater problems? Thanks!

Speaking from experience a drop from that height can cause problems with the hard drive. I did it twice in one day. The first time no problem. The second time noises followed by numerous errors later. In my case it was just the drive that hit the floor not the entire computer.

My suggestion to you would be back up your drive if you are not doing so already. Also, be prepared to purchase a replacement drive soon. I'd probably use Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone of the drive. That way when the current drive fails you can boot from the clone until the new drive arrives then clone everything to the new drive.

I think that this is self-explanatory sort of situation:

- No HD noise before the drop = good!
- Random HD noise after the drop = bad!

Solution... Replace the HD now…or definitely keep it backed up for when it does fail.

Yep your drive is mortally wounded. replace sooner rather than later.
