All my Adobe, macromedia and a bunch of other programs fail to open. Message says "Name of application" quit unexpectedly: followed by a long list of Problem Details. Only thing I can think that happened was 2 weeks ago my wife downloaded a binary file from work and opened it in Indesign. Can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

Well, first welcome to the forum! :) Second, you need to supply much more information before anyone will want to respond: 1) What Apple computer are you using?; 2) What OS is installed?; 3) What 'binary' file did your wife DL and why do you feel this is the cause of your problem?; and 4) What does 'bunch of other programs' mean, i.e. please specify?

BUT, just for starters, if you have more that one user account on your computer, try to enter another and see if your issues are resolved; and reboot your computer, if not already done - please provide the info requested - Dave

I would go ahead and restore to a earlier time than your Wife downloaded the Binary File in your TimeMachine backup and away you go :)
You do have a backup don't you ??
If not I would start to think about doing on, because as you can see, things happen and you need to restore from a earlier time.

On top of what Dave above has said, if you have Mountain Lion or Mavericks, restart and hold down the "Option" key. Find the Recovery Partition and boot into that.
When its done look up the top and look for Utilities. Click that then Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on the Macintosh HD and once its done, restart and see where you stand there.

Hey thanks for replying. I'm running OS 10.6.8 on an iMac 2.4GHz dual Intel. Not sure about the binary file. We were trying to figure out what could have possibly done this and she said she downloaded a binary file 2 weeks ago and thought she opened it with InDesign. I have not seen the file. The programs affected are CS3 suite, dreamweaver, flash, fireworks font doctor, photoshop elements, filemaker. All my mac programs still work fine and firefox etc.I did try to use time machine to restore some of those programs to all the way back to December but it didn't work. I repaired Permissions. I cleaned the cache. I used Onyx to do a bunch of things to no avail. Here's one of the Problem details InDesign.

Your Mac's Specs
21" iMac 2.9Ghz 16GB RAM - 10.11.3, iPhone6s & iPad Air 2 - iOS 9.2.1, ATV 4Th Gen tvOS, ATV3
There isn't a lot to go on there really.
It tells me Thread 6 Crashed, but when I goto Thread 6 all I see is
Code:
Thread 6 Crashed:
0 ??? 0x9254b024 0 + 2455023652

Thread 6 crashed with X86 Thread State (32-bit):
eax: 0x007f96fd ebx: 0xffffffff ecx: 0x15860000 edx: 0x00000000
edi: 0x15860000 esi: 0x1585d8aa ebp: 0x007fdff8 esp: 0x007fdf8c
ss: 0x0000001f efl: 0x00010287 eip: 0x9254b024 cs: 0x00000017
ds: 0x0000001f es: 0x0000001f fs: 0x00000000 gs: 0x00000000
cr2: 0xffffffff

without a single word or Path telling me what happened.

All I can say is its a Internal to the Application Crash.

So im afraid from that, and what you have said you have done, I would either reinstall the offending Apps (which I don't think will help) to wiping the HD and restoring your whole OS from a place way before the Binary file (just to be on the safe side)
If you can, maybe run MemTest just to knock Bad Memory on the head.

Sounds like she corrupted something in Adobe's core that all the CS3 programs call to.

Simplest solution is to uninstall and then reinstall your entire CS3 suite from your Adobe discs.

Reinstalling didn't work. Why would my Preview App be missing? It's in my back up file but how strange. Would a clean install work then use time machine to load a back up from a couple months ago?
