I am new to MacBook Pro. My Toshiba Portable HDD is not detected by the OS X system. The disk has important video, photo and audio files compiled using my Windows Notebook.
Toshiba support was not helpful. I will appreciate any help in accessing and using the portable drive.

What do you mean by "not detected"?

Have you opened Disk Utility and does it show there?

Can only guess it is not showing up on your Desktop nor in Finder...
Open 'Finder - Preferences' - head for both the General and Sidebar tabs and place a check mark for external drives.

Then if the drive is formatted as NTFS, you'll be able to read from it and copy to your Mac, but you'll not be able to write to it without a 3rd party driver. We recommend Paragon's NTFS for Mac if you need write capability.
