I give up - iPhone 5c, running 7.1
Maps app closes if you select the address bar, the shortcut for getting directions and the Recents option.
Have tried:
1. power off
2. reset - holding home and power button
3. full restore to factory - this works 1 time (see below) or until I restore the backup
4. Clear settings on the phone - this permits you to put in 1 address and then returns to just closing the app on every susbsequent touch of the address bar
5. Trick someone else posted of sending an email with a google maps link and opening the link - this does nothing since it only opens in Safari instead of Maps
6. quitting the app - this does clear the last address, but still the app closes as soon as you touch the address bar
