Video issues vlc and apple tv

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and the newest Apple TV and when I stream wirelessly using airplay the video lags and jumps around. Any help smoothing out the playback is greatly appreciated

Hi Murdock - please provide some additional information: 1) Specifics on your MBPro, i.e. year & OS installed; 2) Home network setup (Wi-Fi router/speed/ISP); and 3) Is streaming to the Apple TV OK from your Wi-Fi - please let us know. Dave :)

Late 2013 retina 13"
2.6 Ghz processor intel core i5
8 GB Ram
OSX 10.9.2 mavericks

Broadcasting through VLC player.

AT&T uverse 2wire router 3800

The Apple TV is the newest they put out.

May be interference but I'm not sure. Just have issues with poor play back quality and not sure how to fix

Playing a downloaded MP4 file with VLC and it looks glitchy on playback, sound is not glitchy but video skips and jumps and freezes periodically

Also streaming to tv from Apple TV works perfect never an issue, only when I uses airplay does it act up
