Macbook Pro - WiFi turns OFF and won't turn back ON

Hello,
this is my first time posting something on this forum; I will be as detailed as possible. I bought a Macbook Pro back in 2011 and It came with Lion OS. Last year I upgraded it to Mavericks and so far it has been a nice experience. However, in the past week I have experienced a very strange and irrating problem with my macbook. While doing work all of the sudden the WiFi would turn off and lose all connection to the web. I attempted to turn it back ON by clicking on the wifi signal icon but something weird occured, it was still 'ON' according to my mac and the only option available was to actually turn it OFF, so i clicked on it and the icon would go empty with no curvy lines (i attached a picture). Then i clicked again on the icon to turn it back on, however, as was doomed to remain in this state cause no matter what I tried.. the wifi will remain off even after clicking on the 'turn wifi on' option multiple times. I tried going to the assist me option under network preferences and I obtained multiple results with no fix. I tried sending my mac to sleep though at first seemed to fix the problem.. the wifi inmediately went back to being off and wont catch a signal. The only thing that fixes this is a fresh restart which is annoying and unacceptable...this is really annoying and I need a solution asap because this problem is become very frequent (once every 2 hours)... any help will be appreciated it.

1. A picture of my assist me window before i sent it to sleep, shows the WiFi on the left with the 'Failed' (which confuses me). it also shows the wifi icon empty ( like it was off) but the computer shows as if it was on and would ask you to turn it off... weird?

A second picture after I sent my mac to sleep. Though it seems like there was no wifi signal available, the router was on and literally next to my mac...but my machine wont catch up the signal. (other devices were connected to the wifi and have no problem with it).

Thanks for posting all the details and in the correct forum.

If you have not made any changes (router, modem, settings, etc).....

1. The first thing you might want to do is check with your ISP to see if there have been any network changes. I have had that happen to me some years back and found out my ISP had reconfigured the network in my area.

2. Another routine check you can make is attach an ethernet cable to your MacBook Pro and run that way for awhile. (If possible.)

3. Download the free network analysis tool "iStumbler" from here. Run that for awhile to see what other networks are in your area and which channels they're using. It will also give you an idea of your signal strength and some other useful data.

If you can provide us with a screen shot of what iStumbler shows (after using it for bit) that would also be helpful.

Lastly.. make certain that you're using strong encryption and a password for your network. Preferably WPA2.

Mac book pro wireless connection will not turn on or off

OK.
I've been getting this problem for a while and now I have finally found the fix.
So I want to share it with you.
First the problem:
The wireless network on my mac book pro kept dropping out and even more frustrating, when I tried to turn it on it would not switch on again.
I went onto the internet to find many other users were having the same problem and there were a variety of solutions including actually dismantling the machine - which I started to do myself also: - although when I start doing that kind of thing, I usually end up breaking a few parts before actually repairing the machine! - That is just the way I am...So I was cautious this time and tried all the other solutions I could find - getting rid of pst files, deleting all the different network locations in the network section of the mac, going into 'advanced' and fiddling with stuff...
I also disabled, and then cut out and re-established the airport connection multiple times in the network pane - all to no avail!
Now the Fix:
Finally, I tried going into the 'Location' drop down menu. I went to 'edit locations' and added a location which I called 'New'. Then I added an airport connection to that location. From that point onwards, things started looking up! I was getting the 'amber' connection status back for the wireless connection! Then I was able to go back to my 'automatic' connection configuration and 'bingo!', 'wow', 'woopeee' it was all back working like it had never been broken! So this all goes to show, that there is a silver lining at the edge of every cloud. Though sometimes, it takes a while to find it!

Hope this helps you find a solution to a problem that is so frustrating it might lead you to madness or even worst...

Same problem, was able to get mine working again.

I was experiencing the same or similar thing. My internet would work for 5-10 minutes after booting up and then turn off. Then, after a few days airport would not even turn on. I have a an early 2011 15" MBP. I am not sure how this works, maybe someone could shed some more light on this. But I removed the back of the casing, unplugged the battery from the logic board (you can google diagrams of where this stuff is if your not familiar with it), also unplugged the cables from the airport card into the logic board and reconnected them. Then plugged the battery back in. Booted the machine up and its back to normal and has not dropped out all day after heavy use.

Can anyone explain how this could work? I must ad, that all the connections I unplugged were not loose and appeared to be in good contact.
