auto open with vlc instead of QT

Select a .avi file and hit command+i.
In the info dialogue, expand the 'open with' section, select vlc from the drop down menu and hit the 'change all' button.

it is quite easy, just do this:
control click (or right click) an .avi file
click get info
under "open with" select VLC
then click the "change all..." button to have that application open all .avi's
enjoy!
