Speech command circle- how to remove?

Looked at the speech commands option and it does not like my voice, but cannot get rid of the circle, have speech option turned off in preferences but still persists.
Running lion on g5 quad core.

You're definitely not running Lion on a G5 machine, so how about telling us which Mac you have? If you have Voice Over turned on, you'll need to go into System Preferences, Accessibility, and turn it off. Not sure if that's what you're referring to though....

I think Speakable Items is on not Voiceover since the OP does not like his voice. I think I remember reading long ago that sometimes the circle persists after the feature is turned off. If these directions don't work let us know. Try following these directions .
