Scrollbar mail has disappeared

Not sure what version of Mail you have but in 7.1 it is hidden until you scroll with pad or mouse then it appears until done scrolling.
Thank you for your attention and answer. I have 7.1 but this has never happened before during the 4 years that I have had the iMac. I have always been able to scroll with the mouse, up and down. Now I can neither scroll mails received nor scroll when reading a mail. Your answer did unfortunately not help me, but thanks again.

>System Preferences> General > middle of box you have 3 choices Auto ,When Scrolling and Always check to see if one is checked.
