Pages Update From 4.3 to 5.1

I can't update pages. It says in the App Store that's it's installed but the update isn't there and I am able to print. It says "you need a newer version of pages to open this document."

When you own version 4...you can only update to newer versions of version 4 (and it sounds like you are up to date). The key word is "UPDATE". When go you to versions higher/newer than version 4 (version 5 in this case)...you need to buy it. This is an "UPGRADE".

It's just like going from MS Office 2008 to 2011.

Nick is correct. Also you may not want to "update or upgrade" from 4.3 to 5.1 until Apple adds back many of the things that were formerly in 4.3 and have been removed in 5.1. For right now, you're better off continuing using version 4.3.

If Pages won't open the file but it's not a Pages document, try something else. LibreOffice might do the job for you (it's free so it can't hurt to try).

The problem was solved when I did a spotlight search for "pages." I clicked on the application and version 5.1 popped up and I was then able to print documents in pages again. So I was able to upgrade from 4.3 to 5.1. Chscag, I didn't read your advice until after I upgraded. I have not run into any problems yet.

Yes, because the upgrade to 5.1 *does not* remove the older version, you now have two Pages applications (in part because of the feature concerns mentioned above). Be aware that you can right-click any old Pages document and choose to open it in the 4.3 version if you want to.

Thank you chas_m. I would never have found the old version of Pages nestled in the iWork '09 application. So far I've had no issues with 5.1
