We're going to need a lot more information - that error could be from anything and for anything. Where does this appear? What version of OS X are you using? Does this appear randomly or with something?

what does this mean and what do I do to fix it? The required index.xml file is missing.

Hi Kevin - same questions as Vansmith, i.e. what app are you using? The .xml extension usually is associated w/ programs in the iWorks suite (Pages, Numbers, etc.).

Below quoted are the specs you left in your other post:

20-inch, Mid 2007
Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Safari

As mentioned above, is this error appearing in iCloud ? Numbers ? Pages ? .....

Acquire the required .xml file and put it where it's supposed to be.

Please respond within your own thread - this makes it easier for us to follow the conversation.

Sorry Kevin but we need as much detail as possible. What version of OS X are you using? What version of Pages are you using? When does this occur? Does it happen all the time?

Thank you for the reply info. I get the message when I try to open a saved PAGES document. I just updated at the end of Jan. I believe that is when my problem began, although I did delete some files for no good reason. I am using OSX 10.9.1 and PAGES 4.0.3

Pages files, unlike something like Word documents, are no single files. Indeed, Pages "files" are nothing but glorified folders containing a whole host of files. Which files did you delete?

Hi Kevin!

Do you have a "bad" file extension? If it's something your OS isn't reading (for example, if you're trying to install a program, <filenaem>.exe wouldn't be recognized because it's a self-excuting program for PC's, but <filename>.dmg would be recognized on a Mac.)

Try changing the file extension to .pdf

Here's a couple blurbs in the Apple discussion boards:
