Hi, I have a Macbook Pro, around four year sold now. It still has the original battery.

Now I can't get it to start charging. It used to be I could wiggle the magnetic connector and the charging light would come on but it got worse and worse and now appears to be dead.

It looks like a bad connection at the magnetic connector, one time when I unplugged it the connector was too hot to handle.

Questions. Is this something common, to get a bad connection at the charger connector?

Which part should be replaced, the charging cord or the connector socket in the computer (I have two spare computers for parts since I live in a remote area of Eauador.)

Also, could it be a battery only problem?

Help! =)

If you're living in the tropics as you state, you very likely need to replace both the MagSafe Adapter and the battery. Your MacBook Pro is four years old and very likely needs a new battery plus I would replace the adapter after what you stated.

Thanks, I sanded down the magnetic connector so the pins make better contact and the computer is charging again. I still have to wiggle the cable to get it to light up so I'll sand it some more.

I'll also get a new magnetic connector and battery. When I looked on Amazon I only saw the entire chargers, and not only the connector cables but I'll look some more.
