Would like to compress RAW files to upload to the internet.
Hello - now I've not worked w/ RAW files - these are HUGE (as you know!) and kind of like
digital negatives that require conversion. I don't know 'how many' of these you want to compress but assuming these were taken w/ a digital camera(s) (please provide brand/model of your camera - there are numerous RAW format extensions which may not be all compatible), you might want to go into the settings of your camera to see what format & resizing options exist - might be as simple as saving as a TIFF or JPEG? Also check the website of your brand to see if they might have suggestions (and possibly a simple software app for such a conversion).
However, I was curious if my MBPro could do a conversion - hmmm; so, I DL a free image from
HERE - the name of the file was RAW_CANON_450D.CR2 - (too big to show, but pixel size was 4272 × 2848; 17 MB on the disk) - brought the image into Preview (not perfectly) and was able to first convert to an uncompressed TIFF format (which then could be edited) - finally did a JPEG conversion (400 x 600; 119 KB) which is attached; SO, check your camera's manual & website, give Preview a try, and if unsuccessful, then look for a converter in the App Store and/or online.
