Saving pdf Documents

I'm not sure this is the correct area to post this question my apologies if it isn't.

Why after downloading certain pdf documents will they only save or print if you use the 'bar' that appears on the bottom. If you try to use the commands within File Save as or print you only end up with a blank pdf file. This is probably a very basic question

I am using OS10.9.1 on a late 2011 27inch IMac.

Never had a problem using 'Save as'.

What "certain" documents are you talking about?

Saving pdf documents

They are pdf files downloaded from a Jacaranda text that I purchased.

You might want to check to see if those particular PDF files are locked.
