I own a 13in Aluminum Macbook which is running 10.5.8. I would like to update my laptop so that I can use the current adobe software, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Does anyone have any advice about what might need to be replaced in my computer so that I can run more current software effectively? (I know that I would need to update my operating system, and think I would need to replace my hard drive to support that). I know very little about computers and would greatly appreciate any input!

Here are my specs:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2 GB

Thanks much

Your MacBook is a late 2008 aluminum model. As such, you can run the latest version of OS X (Mavericks) and install 8 GB of memory. I would do both.

However, you must first install Snow Leopard in order to have access to the Mac App Store and download Mavericks. You can order a Snow Leopard install DVD direct from Apple for $19.99. Here is the on line order link.

I have one of these exact models tucked away for emergencies. It has 8GB of RAM, OS X10.9 and runs very well. Good luck!

Your MacBook can handle 8GB of memory and would certainly improve with an increase to 4GB prior to the Mavericks download.
