I have used a password on a Word 2011 document and cannot access that document. Is there a way that I could open that on my macbook.OS is Mavericks

I have protected my own Word 2011 document with a password. I have lost that. How can I open that document on my Maverick OS?

I went through this with one of the Windows versions of Word year or two ago. At that time I couldn't find a way to recover the file from either the Mac or Windows side.

Microsoft Word Password Recovery software: Here's one you can look at.

Note: There are numerous MS Word password recovery tools for free download, the caveat for most of them is that you will need to transfer your Word Doc to a PC and use the tool from there as most tools are Windows only. The one I linked you to above is also for the Mac.

They do cause big problems File Vault, EFI password and password protection programs. The link chscag supplied will only PARTIALLY open the file. To do all the way cost if $29.95 alas.
