What version of OS X are you using? If it's anything after Snow Leopard 10.6.8, then all updates are now managed through the Mac App Store..

Click on Mac App Store, then click on the Updates tab on the top. If you have any updates, you'll see them there. Click Update All to update them all or individually update each application that is there..

All system updates will come through this method. Any application you installed through the MAS will be updated by this method as well. You might have apps that you've installed separately, you can search to see if its' available on the MAS, if it is, install it that way and you'll get future updates through MAS.

Go to  (top left) > "App Store...". You appear to have this confused with the Apple website.

Suggest you download and install the 10.8.5 combo update direct from here.

Or do a google search for "10.8.5 combo update" in the native language of your country and see if Apple has a server closer to you - that is the U.S. download link.

Of course - after you have a current backup.

I think your still not following us. I quoted Van because I took a screen shot of what he was trying to explain.. This is the easiest way to get to the Update part of the AppStore..

In point of fact, the "Software Update" command in the Apple menu will normally open the Mac App Store *and* take you to the updates page. The "App Store" command will just take you to the main page of the Mac App Store.

Did you delete the "App Store" application?

Look in your Applications folder and see if it is there.
If it is there, click on it from there.

And, don't know if you have a typo, but I suggested installing the 10.8.5 combo update - not, 10.8.2.

Would suggest you restore it from your TM backup.
If you don't have a backup, then you'll need to reinstall OS X - after you make a backup.

Hopefully, you made a USB installer of 10.8.
If not, then you're going to have to find someone else with a Mac that can download it and make one.
Or, carry it back in to an Apple store and let them install if for you.
After you make a backup.
