New imac 27inch i7 vs custom built pc

What up nerds? It's you're boy Smelly Nancy checking in.

I like the apple operating system however am trying to decide between dropping about $2,400 for a 27inch i7 w/ 1tb fusion drive, 775m graphics card(RAM would be upgraded later), and a custom built PC.

Now first off I love Apple products (What up Steve Jobs?) and throughly enjoy my ipad air. However I am looking for a system that will function well for photoshop, video editing, as well as a decent gaming rig. If I were to get a PC I would not be utilizing it to access any pornography so I feel as if the potential to catch the computer hivvity jivvity would go down substantially.

Despite my appreciation for all things Apple I am beginning to think that a custom built PC would take care of all my needs for a fraction of the cost.


What should I do people?

If gaming a high enough priority, you'll want to run Windows and you can do so through Bootcamp on a Mac. As far as photography and video editing going, the Macs are well suited to do that..

The price of the Mac is the price. However, remember that while you might be able to spend nearly the same amount of money on a custom PC, a couple of years down the line, the Mac will retain a lot of its value and can be sold for a decent sum should you decide to upgrade. The PC on the other hand will be worth substantially less..

The other thing that makes the Mac a breeze to use is obviously OS X. With your PC, you'll have to go with Windows 7 (or more likely Windows 8)..

Can you build a PC that suits your needs for less than the iMac and be happy with it? Absolutely, it all comes down to what fits your budget, uses..

- Honestly resale value is not a concern for me... however you brought up a very valid point concerning that topic.

- As for OS: if I were to build a PC I would certainly go with 7 as opposed to 8.

According to my careful research process (smoking a blunt combined with the power of google) I feel building a PC would save me about $1,000 for a comparable, if not more powerful machine.

I don't think anyone is going to argue that you could build a comparable PC for cheaper than buying an iMac outright.

However, people purchase Mac's so that they can enjoy using OS X and the other things that come along with it. Not having to deal with virus on your machine, not having the machine slow down over time and so on and so forth..

But if price is primary criteria, then a PC might indeed might be your best option..
