iTunes is not available in iPhoto or iMovie

I am unable to access my iTunes library from iPhoto or iMovie. I keep getting the message "open iTunes to populate the list"

For fear of asking the obvious . . . . have you opened iTunes as advised? Are you able to see the content you're looking for in iTunes itself?

Which versions of iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and OSX do you have?

Also: is iTunes not in the Applications folder? Has the iTunes Library been moved to a different location?
