I don't know ANYTHING about how to deal with this, other than take it to Apple and let a Genius handle it, but I've read some of the info on this problem, and that doesn't sound like the best idea. Can anyone tell me how bad this is and what to do? I can't afford to replace another laptop and I'm really PANICKING myself!!!

Can you tell us a bit more about your new (to you) MacBook Pro? Like where it came from, how old it is, etc.

Kernel Panics are frequently caused by failed or failing hardware, though they can also be caused by an OS misconfiguration. Was the OS freshly installed when you received it? It appears you have Mac OS X 10.7.5, AKA "Lion", which is a bit old at this time.

I would personally start by doing an Apple Hardware Test as described here:

Using Apple Hardware Test

Assuming it passes an extended test, then I would start to look at software. Also, depending on the age, it may be wise to clean the exhaust port at the rear of the machine (at the hinge, with the lid closed) with some compressed air to clear any dust build up. You can do a more thorough job by opening the machine, if you are comfortable with doing so.

Thank You CWA107 -

I'm really sorry my message was so abrupt, (that goes for all who looked at my post) and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some assistance. I'm afraid I was at my wit's end at the time, and I feel badly. I will try to do what you told me in your message as soon as I can and I will certainly get back to you to let you know how it went.
You asked how old and where I got my MacBook, I bought it new in 2010 (or 2011?)
Again, I am sorry I didn't get back to you right away, I just now got back online…

Just replaced my MacBook and didn't get warrantee.

You asked how old and where I got my MacBook, I bought it new in 2010 (or 2011?)

In your original post you said that you "Just replaced my MacBook". Then in your 2nd post you said that you bought it new in 2010/2011.

2010/2011 is 2-3 years ago...it is now 2014.;) 2-3 years ago (to me) doesn't qualify as "just replaced". Since it is 2-3 years old with no warranty...it's not really an important point now...but it is sort of confusing.

Anyway:

- When was the last time the computer ran properly?
- Have you done any hardware upgrades to it since that time?
- Has anything happened to it since then (physical impacts, liquid spills, etc.)?

To pigoo3

Thank you for responding. I'm sorry I confused the issue, my very first Mac laptop lasted me for at least 5 years, when I replaced that one, the next only lasted from 2008-2010, which I thought was sort of a short time. I think I must have a different concept of time, my apologies. (Incidentally, the older one gets, the faster time disappears!) Hope I haven't confused you further!
My computer is running (I'm using it now), I've gotten the message to shut down and re-start twice. All I've noticed is that it's been quite slow, (beach balls for the very first time) and gives me an Airport Utility message randomly. All this just began to happen about a week or so ago. I've not done any hardware updates, no spills have happened. The only thing that did happen was I had to replace the screen. I didn't realize that a small screw somehow landed on (someone was hanging pictures near my desk) and I shut the screen. That made a small hole, no spreading lines/cracks. Had that replaced last October.
Thanks for your help!:)

Hi all, I tried a safe mode start with regard to the kernel panic question I posted (having read some more suggestions) and also tried the test recommended. Nothing happened when I did the test, I must be doing it wrong - but the computer started up fine and hasn't been freaking out at all when I'm in safe mode. So - does this tell anything definitive? I'm not the least bit versed in all this, way newbie, but I am trying to figure this out with your help. I appreciate it SO much! Thank you!!!

Let me see if I understand where we are:

- we're talking about a 2010 or 2011 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5

- you had a kernel panic that seems to have something to do with your graphics card

- you don't want to take it to a service center because -- ???

- you restarted in "safe" mode and things seemed to work fine

If I've got this right so far, my first question would be "what were you doing at the time you got the kernel panic?" Second question: do you have any "anti-virus" software on the machine (please say no)? Have you ever tried or installed MacKeeper (*please* say no)?

The process that caused the issue for this specific kernel panic was WebProcess, a part of the Safari web browser. What were you doing in Safari at the time of the kernel panic? In any case, try using a different browser for a while (Firefox or Chrome). If the problem doesn't reappear, we'll at least be able to tell what the source is.

Thanks you guys, for responding. I most likely will take this to a service place if the problem isn't solved, I just wanted to try and resolve it myself (with your help) if at all possible…I don't have any anti-virus packages, and I don't have MacKeeper, (although I did try the free diagnostics once, but didn't buy it). So it's a graphics problem you are seeing in the report?
I was using Safari at the time, doing a search for locations in New Orleans and some other stuff. I was also checking weather on the dashboard. I thank you all for your help - I'm not sure what to do from here, but I've been kernel panic free for 2 days. I'm kinda walking on eggshells, though... I would appreciate any other input you have, maintenance-wise, and I will switch over to another browser in the meantime. If it panics again, I'll take it to a service center, I don't want to bother people since I'm really new at this and I'm most likely in over my head. I did think it worth a try, though, and thank you to everyone who took the time to help me out!! You guys are terrific!!
