Error in Apps Update

I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 on an early 2009 iMac.

At the moment when I try to update apps using the App Store I get the following message:

An error has occurred

The operation couldn't be completed.

(NSURLErrorDomain error - 1012.)

Can anyone help me please?

Have a read of this link from Apple Discussions. Using antivirus software and Kaspersky's or Avast in particular which causes this exact problem?

Thanks harryb2448. As the article suggested, it was the avast! web shield that caused the problem. I have disabled it and problem solved.
