If all you want to do is check out the new version of iTunes, why not create a backup of your current system? Update to the new iTunes and if you don't like it, restore the older version from your backup.

Why is it complicated ?
You are already defining a ( potential ) solution without indicating what the problem is.

McBie , I use 10.7 for my personal iTunes library. But I work with music files for my work , and it could be good to create a new user profile anyway for my work. There are some functions on the newest iTunes that I use for work. That is why I want to have both

The short answer to your question is no. You can certainly create separate iTunes libraries, or separate user accounts, as you see fit -- but they'll both be running the same copy of iTunes.

My suggestion is to update to the latest iTunes, and set up either separate work/personal user accounts or more simply set up two separate iTunes libraries and switch between them as desired.
