I read this story and thought that Chas would enjoy reading this, and then i thought, Hmm and Vansmith will, as always, try to de-bunk it lol

But all in all, its a interesting story :D

Speech recognition hack turns Google Chrome into advanced bugging device

"As long as Chrome is running, the transcripts of anything that is said next to your computer can be recorded by the malicious site—your private phone conversations, meetings, anything within earshot of your computer is compromised," Ater wrote in an e-mail. "This is a unique vulnerability, as it essentially turns Chrome into an espionage tool with consequences on the physical world."

Haha, I'm not going to try and debunk that - not a Google apologist here. It is what it is and should be fixed. In the mean time, I'll just avoid using browsers that store my login credentials in plaintext. ;)

Didn't realize there was a Van vs. Chas thing. Clearly I'm winning though. :p

I also read it's something that the user has to activate or allow for that site. And there's usually a pop-up window notifying you that it's activated. Not exactly just an open door for eavesdropping, but still something to be aware of.
