Paragraph-numbering in Pages

I am trying to create a document in Pages in which I number the paragraphs manually. The document is in Arabic, and the numbering therefore uses the Arabic version of the numbers shown by the relevant number-key, at the right-hand end of the line because Arabic is read from right to left. Imagine that I have completed my 1st paragraph: as soon as I press Return to start Paragraph 2, my Arabic number 1 vanishes, and down the left-hand side of the page appear the numbers 1 and 2 in the familiar European version. How can I disable this feature in Pages, please ?
