I managed to lose 6 months of notes from my iPhone today. I can't seem to recover the missing data from Time Machine. It's gone from all the connected devices as well. Is it lost forever? I

iTunes backs up notes as part of its backup process. Have you tried restoring from a recent backup?

Right. So does that mean that I need to restore iTunes rather than Notes? If so perhaps you can explain another conundrum.

iTunes 10.4 could convert Midi files to AAC. The latest version seems no longer to do so but this may depend on whether Quick Time 7 has been installed.

I have tried to restore earlier versions of iTunes without success; it just reverts to the most recently installed version, currently 11.1.3.

As it happens my wife's iPad seems still to have at least some of the missing notes, which I've copied to an old-fashioned diary in case they get lost again!!

Once iTunes gets upgraded, you're pretty much stuck with it. So, if the new version doesn't work for you, you'll need to find a third party application.

If by "restore iTunes rather than Notes" you mean restore your iOS device using iTunes, yes, you can restore from the most recent backup. When was the last time you made a backup/synced with iTunes? If it was a long time ago, this solution won't work for you.
