I have had a late 2006 macbook i got on ebay a year ago, and it served me quite well, i managed to drop it and the screen shattered, i looked at prices and found out it would be a better deal just to get another one, i went up one and bought a may 2007 model, then i noticed the late 2007 had some bigger spec upgrades. the santa rosa has a faster bus speed but most importantly, a better graphics card. the 2006 and early 2007 ones had the intel gma 950 w/ 64 mb vram and the late 2007 (santa rosa) has the gma x3100 w/ 144 mb vram. the seller of my macbook says he accepts returns,

what im pretty much asking is, is the santa rosa model really that much faster in real world and should i send the older one back and buy a santa rosa instead

Neither one is fast. The only real difference is that the GMA X3100 borrows more memory from system memory. You'll be limited to installing OS X 10.7.5 (Lion). If you're looking for a used MacBook go with a late 2008 Aluminum model or 2009, 2010 as they can run Mavericks and are much faster. (If you can get one for $100, it might be worth it.)

As chscag says, the GMA x3100 is still pretty bad, especially compared to any discrete GPU or even the Intel HD3000 or 4000. You won't see much improvement over the GMA 950 in OS X (although annoyingly you would in Windows).

If you can stretch it, try and get one with the 9400m, it's vastly superior and the machines can handle 4GB of RAM giving you much more graphics memory.
