Might I suggest you invest in what is commonly called a "Stable Table" it's really just a plastic tray with a flat bean bag attached underneath. These are great for comfort, positioning and allowing a little more air circulation around the device.

Same issue, A, Delete and a few others randomly stop working

I believe for as along as I've had my Macbook my 'A' and backspace keys stop working randomly. At first I ignored it but now it's really starting to bother me. They both go out at the same time and I need to sit there anywhere from a few seconds to a minute retrying to get the key to work. I've found some similar posts and there's seemed to be linked to the text to speech setting. Mine is off. I have the manufacturers warranty still but I believe it only covers hardware and I believe this is some kind of freak software thing. Nevertheless, that is why I am here. Any ideas? I'd rather not send it into apple, I'm just starting a new semester.

I am so happy you started this thread. For the longest time I thought it was just me. i even brought my 2013 MBA to apple at one point and the technician suggested it was a 'wear issue' though it seems to be a systemic issue.

hi! I also got the same problem.. it started like a year ago and still there!

Not working 1, Q, A, Volumes Up&Down and the Delete one.

It works after a while if i press really hard the letter A, but its very annoying! I think it's the connector. Its clearly a design problem, otherwise there wouldnt be more than 3 people with exactly same issue! But i guess i will have to pay for the repair.. thank you apple..

BTW: Macbook air 2013.

Figured my keyboard out!

I am so happy you started this thread. For the longest time I thought it was just me. i even brought my 2013 MBA to apple at one point and the technician suggested it was a 'wear issue' though it seems to be a systemic issue.

So I have been dealing with this keyboard issue for a while and I finally solved my own mac's problem. If I am applying too much pressure while resting my hands in "typing position" that A, 1, Delete, and volume keys do not function. If I type with proper technique (not resting palms on the Mac) I have no issues! So happy to have solved the issue. Obviously there is a hardware issue, but for now I am able to type with no problems. Hope this helps others.

I've had a very similar issue with my mid 2014 MBP Retina. Got it booked into the local Apple specialist to take a look at in the morning, but my A, Q, backspace and 1 keys havent been working as others have said, as well as my volume buttons and the brightness down button.
They were on/off for about 24 hours but now they seem to be completely dead regardless of what surface I use. Unfortunately my Applecare expired in November so I'm hoping its not too muh of an expensive cost - but interesting to see that others have had issues with the exact same keys
