Migration tool from Windows to Mac not working

2010 13" MBP running OSX mavericks - I tried migration tool from Windows using Vista to MAC and it finds my name/windows laptop on the MAC but then it doesn't go any further.

After opening the Windows Migration Assistant did you then go to the Mac and open Migration Assistant?

Need to follow the steps outlined here.

Yes, I followed these steps exactly - my PC could not find the Mac so it was just running saying "waiting for Mac...to connect"

I had an issue back in the day with this on Windows XP. Turns out I needed to apply a Windows service pack due to network issues. Maybe a different issue here, but maybe worth looking into? Could also be you need to enable something like the "Share files and folders using SMB" option in System Prefs > Sharing > Options. Just a thought...
Are you moving files from Mac > Windows, or from Windows > Mac OS X?
