Preview Pane Disappears in Outlook for Mac 2011

A few days ago my reading pane started disappearing in Outlook for Mac 2011. Every time I leave the Inbox and return, the reading pane changes to "Hidden" and requires me to manually bring it back. This is tedious!!! How can I fix it to work properly again?

Pretty new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display and all the goodies.
