I have read about refurbished actually being the better way to go, not only for saving $, but because the item has had more testing and attention over a new one that wouldn't get that much. Thoughts or experiences on this?

If the specs of a refurbished unit works for you...get it.

Either way...new or refurbished...you get 12 months of Applecare. So the "testing" part really doesn't play a factor.

Good point pigoo3, but still a hassle to take/send in. The difference for me is $50 right now and I'm wondering if that's enough to not go with NOS cMBP.

I am not opposed to used/refurbished/older models in any way. But if you have no other needs other than a new/newer computer...and if we're only talking $50...I would go with the newer unit. The newer it is now...the longer it will be supported by Apple.

As far as the "hassle". There's really no guarantees (new or refurbished).

No it's the same model, a MB Pro from June 2012. Apple is selling refurbs and some sellers have them still as NOS. By the time I pay tax thru Apple, the difference is only $50.

50 bucks is still 50 bucks and I'd rather pocket that, and I'm leaning that way, just wanted some opinions.

I got a Refurb iPad. It was like new in every way including even the smell!! :D Grin I still have it and it works great.

If you do go Refurb get it from Apple. Otherwise who redid it? Refurbs from Apple are great. I would have no reservations getting an Apple Refurb.

I see. I thought both options were via Apple. If you buy the new one...you get a nicer box!:) The refurb. will be in a "plain brown wrapper" box.

lol. It can come in a pizza box for all I care. as long as it's good.

I understand.:) The box is important to some people (including me). But only a deciding point if the prices were the same. To save $50...I would go with the "plain brown wrapper" as well!;)

My refurbed 2012 iMac was purchased on 12 June and date of manufacture from serial number shows made on 14 May so apart from plain white box can see no difference apart from saving a couple of hundred dollars

Thanks for posting that Harry. Very interesting that your iMac was a refurbished unit...and was less than 30 days old when you bought it.

MBP 15" I7 first one and loving it.
I just got a refurbished MBP last week. I really can't tell the difference from new. I'm very pleased with it. I saved more than 50 as it is a 2012 model. Still quite happy with it.

This one is 2012 too. $150 different until Apple charges tax where the other sellers don't. So in the end, it's a $50 diff. But I still went with the refurb and I know Apple is very good on returns/repairs if it's not right.

So I have a MBP classic coming to me. I feel good about it because it's upgradeable and more than enough power for me for a long time.

I just bought a refurb MBA; can you tell me where to find the date of manufacture? Was it on the shipment box?
