Hi, I was just thinking about getting a 512 crucial memory stick for my ibook g3 to upgrade it's performance.

but, i was also wondering, what would add more performance to my laptop a 512 memory stick

or a 40 gb Hitatchi 7200 rpm hard drive.

please reply.

It all depends on what you plan on doing with your computer. Both of the options have their own performance enhancements.

Uhm, I just wanted it to run panther smoothly while loading up apps kind of in a smooth fast manner, browsing, watching video, chatting, downloading.

The usual.

As noted above both have their own benefits but I would do the RAM first. OS X runs virtual memory all the time. If a program or the system starts to run short on RAM it will access VM which is based on the hard drive. The HD is always slower than RAM. The more RAM you have the less the system will use VM.
