So I have wanted Microsoft office and wanted to get it for my mom who just got my old mac and is use to PC where we have been using a copy of like office 07 or something for everything.

So first they dropped the 2 or 3 mac bundle so I didn't buy it, and then I thought it was like $100ish but that is for the subscription crap, which I'm not doing, so its only one mac per purchase now and I wanted to get it for my mom for xmas but I found out its $220 with outlook :( and I know this probably isn't kosher here and I don't need to say anymore other than I was thinking about just pirating it but then I found this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064PF4ZQ/?tag=macforums0e4-20, its the price of the one without outlook but has it, is this legit? Everywhere else its more but it's shipped and sold by amazon. Is this the cheapest way to get it? I would prefer paying for it vs stealing but not for $220 just not willing to pay that... :/

And another question, I have scene complaints about pages and such losing functions to end up being able to run on IOS too, does Microsoft office lose these functions too or no?

Amazon is fine and that is the correct version but the prices are a little heavy. If you look at eBay find a seller with high positive 100% feedback.

Better than $220 from a store... and they wonder why everything is going to the internet. So it looks like the only way to get Outlook is in the package so ill have to get the home and business for my mom and home and student for me.

Whats the 2013? Office Home & Student 2013 - Best Buy

What makes these (old versions)? they still work and are 2011 right?

Confusing isn't it? Actually, the only reason why it's marked as an old version is because Microsoft no longer sells the 3 install version of Office 2011 Home and Student. All their retail versions are now 1 install. Another nice move from Microsoft....:(

There's no difference between it and the other version you linked to. I have the 3 install version which I purchased when it first went on sale several years ago and it works great. I had it installed on 2 Macs at one time.

The version in the Link is Windows only.

Apparently so. My original 3 install version came with Outlook which I never installed. Outlook for the Mac is not near as polished as the Windows version so I just prefer instead to use Apple Mail.

Why not go with the obvious choice...and purchase MS Office from the Apple Store?? $139 for the "Home & Student" Edition, and $219 for the "Home & Business" Edition:

Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 - Apple Store (U.S.)
Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 - Apple Store (U.S.)

Oooooor I could get it from amazon for $112 for the Home & Student and $146 for the Home & Business.......

Sorry...I thought that the prices you mentioned above were higher...and since you had a concern about "legitimacy"...there would be no problems with the Apple Store.:)

Yeah I went to the Apple store here thinking it would be $140 but my mom needs outlook so it was $220 and I'm like yup not spending that.

Is it possible she might like the "integration" of Calendar/Contacts/Mail? Yes its different, but not radically so ... a different approach but the same idea.

Have you considered the idea of NOT giving your Mom your old Mac but instead selling it and getting her an iPad or something? IOW, have you thought about what she ACTUALLY does with a computer and what might work best?

Some moms like everything the way its always been, and some moms are up for a challenge. I don't know yours so I can't say, but maybe you can consult with her a bit on that. Just another option to consider.

Yeah originally I was going to sell it but her comp barley runs and we're both sick of PC's being worthless after 4-5 years. My 2010 runs like it did new, I only got the 2012 for 16GB of ram the graphics card and because they were discontinued so I jumped on it. The only reason she didn't want to use my mac was it didn't have office so I'm guna get it for her, and because its small but she has a 20 some inch monitor and we already got a display port to VGA adapter.

Well I told her to try mail because then for about the same amount of money as office home and business we could get the 3 pac for home and student and I could have it too but mail isn't syncing.

It says the server failed, and how does she transfer all her folders and stuff?
