Hi,

I was trying to share the iPhoto library across users by creating a Disk Image via Disk Utility.

It didn't go a planned as I needed more space than originally allocated. The resizing option in Disk Utility specified the Maximum Size was less than what I needed.

My next step was to delete this Disk Image, I believe I did this by selecting Edit > Delete

The Disk Image disappeared however the 80 GB near reappeared on my harddrive as available. I tried emptying the Trash but that did not correct the problem.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Did you try rebooting your machine? If that doesn't work, use Spotlight to see if you can find the image.

Most unusual the Disk Image is not located. Does not appear in l.h. pane of Disk Utility? And was an .dmg and not a partition?

I used the New Image option to create the image, I don't believe it was a .dmg

In Disk Utility the top portion shows:

500.11 GB WDC W500...
> Macintosh HD

(Grayed out) SuperDrive

Okay have a look in your Documents folder (Finder > Documents in the side panel) and see if it stored there.

You could also use Spotlight to find the file (magnifying glass in the top right hand corner).

For the future, the disk image type you want is a sparse image - they grow as needed (you don't need to set a size).
