I have just purchased a 24inch 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Its an iMac6,1 model

Any help would be wonderful guiding me to upgrade to 10.5.4 (or later) without having to use the CD drive (it's cactus)

Kindest regards

You can't upgrade from 10.4.x to 10.5.x without the install disc for 10.5.x.

Unless you REALLY need OS 10.5...and since your iMac has a core 2 duo cpu...it would be less expensive to upgrade to OS 10.6.

An OS 10.5 (on e-Bay the last time I checked) will usually cost around $75-$100. An OS 10.6 install disk directly from Apple costs $19.99. OS 10.6 is a much better OS version for your computer as well.:)

Of course if you have an important reason to install OS 10.5...then you're going to have to purchase it.

Does this mean that your optical drive does not work? If so...then you need to have the internal drive replaced...or purchase an external optical drive.

p.s. FYI...Apple no longer sells OS 10.5 install disks.

You can likely buy Snow Leopard and an external drive for the same or less than it will cost if you find a retail copy of Leopard (do not buy those grey discs everyone has for sale as they will not work).

And that $20 ($21 in Australia - here ) for Snow Leopard from Apple includes the shipping.

To get to an upgrade without a disc from Tiger, you first need an upgrade with a disc. There's no way for you go get any higher without a disc.

With 10.6.8 installed (upgrade, then update if needed) you have the App Store and can get a higher OS upgrade if your machine will run it.
