Refurbished MBP from apple?

Here is the deal. My wife has an old Sony laptop 12 years old. With the original HD. I swear this is true. Must have been a good HD. Anyway I digress.

Apple store has a refurbished MBP:

Selling for $1899.

I was thinking of buying this and giving my MBP 2010 6.2 I7 2.3 to my wife.

First are Apple Refurbished worth the mony?

Would I be better off with a new MBP instead of this one? Don't like that I can not change things on the new model.

I'm guessing that I can still change the HD and memory on this model if I want to ?

What's your opinion?

I'd snag that if I was in your position. Still a bit pricey, but it will be quick as all ****.

First refurbished is a GREAT deal if you can find the configuration you are looking for.

My iMac is a refurb and it's great. You get the same 1 year AppleCare for free and can purchase the additional 2 years. Apart from the non-descript box the Apple product comes in, you cannot tell a refurb from a new version.

Next, the Retina models RAM is not user-upgradeable. It's soldered onto the logicboard and you're stuck with whatever you get. The SSD, on the other hand, is a stick you can upgrade.

So if you are looking for a MBP with more than 8GB, you might want to continue looking for that model to show up in the refurb store and then pick it up..

I'm surprised after being a member for 3 years you don't already know the answer (we discuss this all the time). Apple refurbished products are great...they're just like new...you save a little money...and you get the same exact 12 months of Applecare that you get with a new computer.

I found another one with 256gig ssd and 2.33 quad I7 instead of 2.66 quad I7 and 500gig ssd. This one was $300 less I think I can live with these spec's. Can't imagine the 2.33 would make that much difference. Ram is the same for both models 8meg. Done deal on order. I'm hyper love buying Apple.

I agree with what you said about the cpu (not a major difference). Going with a 256gig SSD vs. 512gig SSD certainly helped with the price (SSD's are still fairly expensive). The only other thing I would have looked into would have been the graphics hardware (you didn't mention the graphics specs on the 2nd computer).

I didn't check. But if this is/was a model with non-upgradeable ram...that would also be a serious thing to consider.

pigoo3 the graphics cards are the same . Both had 8gig's of ram I was assuming that they were not upgradeable. 8gig's should be fine for me. I think you can upgrade the HD if needed. The 256 should be fine for now my clone is 95gig's.
