Since installing Mavericks and by default Safari 7 i am unable to use any video that needs flash player. Is there some way to cure this. I have had to install Chrome to be able to use video content on BBC news for example.

I was prompted to do so and actually went through the process more than once, still the same result. I think this has something to do with the fact that Flash is sandboxed on the new version of Safari. I have no ice what that means except that its a security device. Nor do i know how to get around this. Everywhere i look i find info that Safari on Mavericks is sand boxed but no info on how to get around this.
If you have any ideas i would be very grateful...

The sandboxing shouldn't affect Flash's (in)ability to load. Have you made sure to completely quit and re-open Safari (not just closing all the windows but quitting: Safari menu > Quit Safari)?

This problem has been happening since i installed Mavericks, some few days back. In that time i have shut down Safari many times, and of course, turned the computer off every night so yes, Safari has been totally shut down. I only mention this to indicate that i have indeed shut down Safari properly...

What happens when you view the page here? Do you get any information about your Flash install (in the "Version Information" box)?

Flash is properly installed and loaded if information shows up about your install. What page are you trying to load Flash content on? Are you sure it's Flash content (and not something like Silverlight instead)?

Not sure from your reply if you mean that the link you gave should show me if flash is properly installed. I checked vis system preferences and in the flash player section advanced, this is the version it says is installed
Plug-in version 11.9.900.170 is installed.
Primarily the player is required to view video content on the BBC homepage, also Utube. I am pretty sure its Flash content. Also i have Chrome installed and everything works fine in that.

Yes, the link should verify your Flash installation. It should inform you of the currently installed version. I wanted to see if Safari did indeed recognize and load the Flash plugin.

Okay, well it doesn't show the version in there but in system preferences it clearly shows that flash player is installed and the correct version is used. Now i am even less sure what is happening. As i said before i have Chrome installed and Flash works fine in that, so it has to be installed on my machine. Maybe if i try and delete Safari and install it again it may cure the problem.

Well seems that Safari is an integral part of the OS so i can't delete it and as i can't use Flash i suppose i am stuck with Chrome. Shame really because i have had a Mac for a few years now, this is my second one and i like Safari...
Thank you for your advice

I use flash with safari al the time, so it's something in your install. I'd quit the Internet before I used Chrome...

Just because it's successfully been installed doesn't mean that it's being loaded. ;)

In Safari, go to Help > Installed Plug-Ins. Do you see "Shockwave Flash" listed (you can copy/paste that into the find dialog to search quickly)? If not, Safari isn't loading it.

Safari is loading it and it's installed properly so why it's not working is beyond me (yet another reason for me never to use Safari...).

This is probably the last thing I can think of: check to make sure plug-ins are enabled. Go to Safari > Preferences > Security > make sure "Allow Plug-ins" is checked.

Under Advanced in Safari Preferences any chance 'Stop plug Ins to save Power' selected?

Plug-in version 11.9.900.170 is installed. Appears in System preferences.
