Any place that sells these? Do they ever pop up for sale on here? Could I get one from Apple like claiming I broke on or something?

I would prefer the glossy but understand it could be hard to find (why I was considering getting on from apple), so I could settle for the anti-glare if I can't find a glossy.

'hi-res displays' (depending on what you define as hi-res) of all kinds are sold in thousands of places.

But I'm guessing you know that. Care to narrow the target about which specific display you want to find?

I'd also be down to find this. I have a 13" mbp with a bcracked glossy display and I'd be down to replace it with a hi res antiglare.

I think he was talking about displays for MBP notebooks mrplow...

Yeah I'm talking about the actual Apple 1600x1050 displays that came on the Macbook Pro's with the "hi-res" option (what I was referring to vs just hi resolution in general). I want to put one on my 15" MBP, the seller I bought my laptop from will do it for me for not much money. There only for the 15" as far as I know the 13" is stuck at 1200x800. I wanted to get a hi-res anti-glare 15" MBP but went for the regular screen to search for a glossy hi-res display.

Wow thanks, now I know exactly where to get one because all 35,600,000 results are selling hi-res MBP displays for a decent price....

Somewhere on apple's forums someone said that the hi-res display has different stuff on the logic board to support the higher resolution???? That isn't true is it?

K now the only problem I'm seeing is I thought it would be cheaper to just swap the whole top portion but ifixit wants $650 for that and only $200 for just the LCD panel but that seems like a lot more work to replace.

Did you notice that 30min after your snarky response to my post, you had two different prices and instructions how to replace it?

Replacing the whole top is easy and no there is no special stuff to make high res work, I can do it in ~20min (including getting a panel off another Mac). Replacing the panel in the top is quite more work but possible. Just a lot more screws.

Well why didn't you just tell me check out ifixit instead of making an image file of google and posting it? And it still doesn't help me find the whole back for a decent price :/

and I just found out they don't even have the hi-rez screens instock

Were good I just hate when people do that unless its a really simple question because he took more effort in making that vs just telling me some places to look.

I did find it on google but there out of stock :/

I found this one http://www.powerbookmedic.com/15-Inch-MacBook-Unibody-Display-LCD-Screen-NEW-p-17295.html
but are they Apple OEM? as in apple quality? I don't want some garbage screen.

How much does apple want for a new screen if I smash mine? lol

But like if someone smashes there screen and has apple fix it how much is it? $600 some?

Not sure. I haven't had it done myself...and I can't remember the last time a Mac-Forums member had a display panel replaced...and told us about it. I think that logic boards are pretty much the most expensive single part to replace...and that can be around $500+ (for a 13" laptop logic board).

In many cases if the computer is older (and not worth so much)...it's really not worth it to have an expensive repair like this done.

This is why I was suggesting going to PowerbookMedic.com...and see how much a replacement display panel for your application will cost (new or used)...they sell both. Then go to iFixIt.com for the replacement procedure.

If you can do the install yourself...you save yourself a bunch of "labor bucks"!:)

Thank you, that was the link I posted, so there a good place to get stuff? it will be like OEM? They want $150 for the LCD panel.

Their site clearly says they use the same panels Apple uses. They also have virtually all of the panel types, glossy and matte, and they are all the same price new.

15 Inch MacBook Pro Unibody Display LCD Screen

$150 is a lot for a panel relative to other laptops, but it's Apple so I'm sure there's a premium. I don't know how much Apple would charge to fix a panel, but $600 is not out of the realm of possibility, particularly now that these laptops are no longer made and this screen is not used anymore. They would be using a screen they *only* got for these kinds of repairs. As well, I'm sure many of the broken screens are from impacts other than the screen surface, so the panel is probably dented/broken too, so that price may include the whole top (which takes a lot less labor, so they may opt for that anyway).

I was JW, the apple reseller I got my laptop from will do it for me, he was just talking more about replacing the whole top not just the LCD panel so I'm waiting for him to get back to me.

Here's what Powerbookmedic.com charges for a complete thing ("the whole top"):

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Complete Display

Price ranges from $249.95 to $449.95. This is for 15" models...glossy display (some in stock, some out of stock). I know that you're looking for a matte display. This just gives you a ballpark idea of what it would cost.

Actually I would prefer the glossy, but that site doesn't say weather there hi-res or not

Sorry...you did mention that at the beginning of the thread. As far as the hi-res part. Yeah...might need to do a bit more research into that (maybe e-mail Powerbookmedic with that question).

But my question back to you is...matte or glossy display...normal resolution or hi-res...at those prices for a complete "whole top"...would you really still want to do it?? The replacement cost for the "whole top" could easily be 50% or more of the total value of your computer.
